Top AP Maoists held in UP

In a joint operation in Lucknow, the UP police assisted by the Special Intelligence Branch from Andhra Pradesh have taken into custody 12 people they say are Maoists.

Sources in the AP police said one of the suspects, Chintan Dha, is a central committee member of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) and another, Ashok, is said to be a top Maoist leader from Bihar. Several others are said to be state committee members.

However, a senior officer said, “There are no Maoist leaders from AP among those picked up. All are either from Bihar or Jharkhand. The Maoists seem to have organised a meeting in Lucknow and their hideout was raided.”

The UP police was tipped-off that prominent Maoist leaders from Andhra Pradesh were participating in the meeting and so raided their hideout.
