The Congress MP from Vijayawada Lagdapati Rajgopal being taken in a police van to prevent him from protesting the formation of Telangana in Hyderabad on Monday
The Congress MP from Vijayawada, Mr Lagadapati Rajagopal has demanded that the state Assembly move a resolution stating that Andhra Pradesh
would remain undivided and threatened to go on hungerstrike if the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, did not do so. He, however, said there was no necessity for the Chief Minister to resign.
Evading a direct reply to a question on whether his resignation was to protest against statehood for Telangana, Mr Rajagopal only said there would be bypolls in Vijayawada.
“There will be byelections and I have told the high command that a Telangana candidate should be fielded so that the country knows the people of Andhra Pradesh are broad-minded and want a united state,” he said, making it clear he would not contest the elections.
